Summary

In Capcom’sDragon’s Dogma 2,weapons provide massive buffs to the Arisen’s - and their Pawns' - stats such as Strength and Magick, resulting in great bonuses to damage of weapon skills and basic attacks, as well as affecting other aspects of skill efficiency. Usually, that’s exactly what players want from a weapon.

But some players like piling on challenges, so they may want to opt for a weaker weapon instead for the maximum level of difficulty. Here are the weakest weapons available to each vocation for anyone looking for a major challenge.

TheWooden Staffis the basic weapon available to Mages inDragon’s Dogma 2.This weapon is granted to players for free when selecting theMage Vocationfor the first time, whether at the start of the game or later on. It is also available for purchase at the Borderwatch Outpost, the first location visited after the opening sequence of the game.

As weapons go, the Wooden Staff isn’t a terrible choice at the beginning of the game, but it drops off hard when compared with the more advanced options available. But that’s perfect for a challenge run since the Arisen then has to rely on their own innate stat boosts.

The Archer Vocation inDragon’s Dogma 2relies on the strength of its bows along withspecial arrow typesto deal fantastic ranged damage to enemies. Archers rely on the Strength stat, so their bows work to enhance this. TheFluted Bowis the basic Archer weapon, given for free to anyone selecting the Archer Vocation for the first time. It can also be looted in Melve or Vernworth.

The Fluted Bow is a basic weapon that has what it needs to get Archers started in the Vocation, but as bows go, many others are better. This makes it a suitable choice for a challenge run.

InDragon’s Dogma 2Thievesdual-wield daggers, delivering swift, agile attacks again and again to cause a flurry of damage. The important stat for Thieves is Strength, so their dual daggers boost that stat. Criteria is the basic dagger pair available to Thieves, given for free at the start of the game or whenever the Thief Vocation is first chosen.

Alternatively, Criteria can be purchased from the Borderwatch Outpost, the first location visited after the game’s opening sequence. This is a really basic weapon whose only good points are its Slashing stat, but for Thieves looking for a rough time, this is a perfect choice.

Fighters looking for a challenge inDragon’s Dogma 2can’t go wrong with the good olddependable Round ShieldandTrusty Sword. These are the basic Fighter weapons granted at the start of the game or upon switching to the Fighter Vocation for the first time, so they don’t offer a lot in the way of bonuses.

But they are easily available and allow the Arisen to use the Fighter Vocation without gaining too much in the way of additional stats, so they make a great choice in a challenge run.

One of only two advanced Vocations available to Pawns, the Sorcerer Vocation is like a much more offensively oriented Mage. Sorcerers use Archistaves, a long weapon designed to amplify their Magickal powers. Unlike most of the Vocations in the game, Sorcerer is unlocked through a quest where the player has tofind their first archistaff.

Grievous Hornsis the basic Sorcerer archistaff and can be found inside a chest hidden deep within Trevo Mine, a quest location inDragon’s Dogma 2’sKingdom of Vermund.

The Warrior Vocation can be unlocked after reaching the city of Vernworth for the first time. This Vocation is essentially an offensive Fighter who eschews the trusty sword and shield combo in favor ofa greatswordor hammer instead. Warriors rely on their Strength stat to deal massive damage, so their weapons tend to boost Strength quite well.

But theTwo-Handeris the basic Warrior greatsword, so it doesn’t have amazing stats. This can be received variously as a quest reward, found as part of the Vocation Frustration quest, and later on purchased. So it’s easily accessible and makes a good choice of basic greatsword for a challenge run.

The Trickster Vocation is an odd Vocation inDragon’s Dogma 2, which doesn’t deal any damage at all. Instead, the Trickster relies on acollection of abilitiesmeant to distract, beguile, and bewitch enemies so that the Arisen’s Pawns can deal damage instead.

But Trickster is an advanced Vocation unlocked during the mid-game, so its weapons are quite powerful in terms of the stat advantages they bring. That said, theBewitching Balmcenser is the basic Trickster weapon and is the best bet for players looking for (even more of) a challenge.

An advanced Vocation that is only available to the Arisen,Magick Archeris the magick variation on the basic Archer Vocation. Magick Archer has a quest associated with its unlock, which isn’t available until quite far into the game, making all its weapons quite strong.

But the basic magickal bow,Magian Crutch, is the perfect choice for a weak weapon challenge run inDragon’s Dogma 2because it offers the lowest boost to the Magick Archer’s Magick stat. It can be purchased in Roderick’s Smithy in Vernworth after unlocking the Vocation.

The Mystic Spearhand is a powerful hybrid Vocation bringing together the best of Magick and Physical damage inDragon’s Dogma 2to become an almost unstoppable powerhouse using its uniqueDuospear weapon. As an advanced Vocation even the basic weapon, theInitiate’s Blade, is quite powerful. But for the point at the game where it becomes available, this is probably for the best.

Even for a challenge run with weak weapons, the Initiate’s Blade is a good choice because it boosts both the Magick and Strength stats - both key to the Mystic Spearhand - but not by so much that the challenge is lost.

10Warfarer: Any Basic Weapon

Any Basic Weapon Can Work For A Challenge Run

The Warfarer Vocation inDragon’s Dogma 2is a unique, player-only Vocation that allows the Arisen to use any kind of weapon along with any kind of armor to create a unique playstyle. As such, the Warfarer can be built to the player’s specifications, with any choice of weapon in the game.

Depending on how exactly fans want toplay the Warfarer, any weapon is a valid choice. In a weak weapon challenge run it may be best to use the Warfarer Vocation anyway, since it has lower stats than the dedicated Vocations, adding another bit of challenge.
