Alan Wake 2has been radio silent for a long while, but that does not necessarily mean that its development is troubled. In fact, the only details that Remedy Entertainment has unveiledAlan Wake 2since its official reveal at The Game Awards 2021 were that it would launch in 2023, and since then Remedy has continued to promise that. Remedy confirmedAlan Wake 2is on track for 2023just recently again while revealing its new studio logo, and if it is indeed releasing in the next eight months, then fans will surely be hearing more about it soon.

Alan Wake 2’s concept art perpetuates the idea that this sequel is Remedy’s first dedicated survival-horror game, and there is a lot to be excited about regarding what the developer could be capable of in that genre.Alan Wake 2has the potential to be one of horror’s most surprising new games this year, and a lack of content leading up to it could even be in Remedy’s favor. But when Remedy does decide to finally share more about it, such as a concrete release date, it has the best possible stage to do so duringGeoff Keighley’s Summer Game Festin a couple of months.

Alan Wake 2 Doesn’t Need to Reveal Much, But It Needs a Release Date

It would be incredible to see whatAlan Wake’s light mechanicswill look like in survival horror, considering how palpable its dread and nyctophobia-inducing sequences were. Rather,Alan Wake 2could likely get away with not revealing too much about its gameplay as a sign of posturing from Remedy, where its survival-horror genre and franchise anticipation perhaps being enough to excite fans regardless. The only morsel that fans truly need at this point is to hear a concrete confirmation of its purported release this year.

Shadow-droppingAlan Wake 2would be an absolutely absurd approach, but the sequel could probably get by without many trailers before it finally launches. Either way, it needs a release date to confirm that it will in fact launch this year, and the absence of any substantial news or details lately is always concerning to fans in the meantime.

Remedy is in the middle of juggling a ton of games right now, and it would not be surprising if its plate is overloaded and more time needs to be afforded to make it truly special. However, Remedy has reportedly stated thatAlan Wake 2is playable from start to finish, which would suggest that the lack of any news or details has been purposeful.

There is not much time left in 2023 beforeAlan Wake 2is going to have to launch, and there is a perfect opportunity to announce when that will be during Summer Game Fest in June. Not only is Keighley’s games celebration a huge platform with a lot of viewers—especially due tothe cancellation of E3 in 2023—but the last timeAlan Wake 2appeared was in its reveal at The Game Awards, which was also hosted by Keighley.

If a pattern can be surmised from this, it is thatRemedy’s Sam Lakemay want to bring the highly anticipated sequel to the spotlight again during a Keighley-led event. This could be a coincidence either way if it does come to pass, simply because there would be no better or more timely platform to appear at. IfAlan Wake 2does not appear at Summer Game Fest, and no other reveals or updates are given by June, it will make a 2023 release date much more questionable.

Alan Wake 2is scheduled to release in 2023 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
