Star Wars Eclipse Could Be More Important to Canon Than Star Wars Outlaws

Star Wars Eclipse’s High Republic Setting is Still an Emerging Era in Canon

Star Wars’ High Republic era is still an emerging time period within theStar Warscanon. The High Republic is heavily featured inStar Warscomics and books, but it hasn’t wholly been embraced on screen.Star Wars Jedi: Survivorhas briefly explored the High Republic, andStar Wars: The Acolytewill be the first TV series to be set in the era.

Star Wars Eclipsewill be the first video game to be set in the High Republic, and this would allow the era to receive more spotlight. AlongsideStar Wars: The Acolyte,Star Wars Eclipsewill help bring attention to the High Republic and it may have a lot riding on its shoulders if it’s meant to spark more interest in this specific era.

The Era of the Galactic Empire Has Been Seen More Than Any Other Era

Unlike the High Republic, the era ofthe Galactic Empirehas been seen since the very beginning of theStar Warsfranchise. The Galactic Empire has had the most media set around, such as Respawn Entertainment’sStar Wars Jedigames,Star Wars Rebels, theObi-Wan Kenobiseries, and even the entire Original Trilogy.

Star Wars Outlawswill be adding to the lore of the Galactic Empire and giving insight into what it is like in the criminal underworld of the era, but it will still have to play off previous media, unlikeStar Wars Eclipse.Star Wars Eclipsehas the chance to add new elements, stories, and vast new lore, butStar Wars Outlawslikely won’t be able to add a huge amount of new lore. There isthe new planet of Tosharathat will add new lore, characters, and a criminal organization, but the game is still set in an era that has been established for over 40 years.

Plenty of Opportunity for Star Wars Eclipse to Add to the High Republic Era

WithStar Wars Eclipsebeing set in the High Republic, there is plenty of opportunity for the game to add to the canon of the era and to build a foundation for future Star Wars products. IfStar Wars Eclipseis a hit, then it could kick-start the production of moreStar Warsgames set during the High Republic. It would be fun for players to explore the High Republic through different game genres, such asStar Wars Jedi’s Soulslike approach or evenStar Wars Outlaws' open-world approach.

PerhapsStar Wars Eclipse’s presumed success would encourage Respawn Entertainment to develop a prequel game toStar Wars Jediwhich would be based onthe High Republicflashbacks inSurvivorand allow players to learn more about characters like Dagan Gera and Santari Khri. Regardless of what happens, there is plenty of opportunity forStar Wars Eclipseto take full advantage of the High Republic and build a new foundation for futureStar Warsgames.
