Although fast travel systems have become commonplace for games with large worlds,Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderhas decided not to offer players the option. Rather, if players want to revisit any of the planets in the game that they have already explored, they will need to do it the old fashioned way.
While playingStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, we were struck by how the levels on each planet were constructed. Like aDark Soulsgame,Fallen Ordergives players save points where they can meditate, restore health and stim canisters, and spend skill points. These meditation points are scattered throughout each level, but oftentimes players will return to the same point via a shortcut, which opens up a faster route between two areas.

When opening these shortcuts, players will have an easier way to explore the world ofStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderand find areas that they might have missed the first time around. Additionally, players are encouraged to revisit these areas once they havenew Force powers, like Force Push, for example.
Developer Respawn Entertainment has implemented a map that is similar to theMetroidseries in that it shows pathways that players can’t access until they have a specific item or ability. These pathways will be highlighted in red initially, but once players obtain the necessary item or ability inStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderthe path will become green.
As a result, Respawn wants players to re-explore the areas they have been through before, rather than jump right to a specific point. If the game offered a fast travel system it would diminish some of the exploration that the game encourages through its map. In our hands-on preview, we found new pathways that included collectibles like new outfits for main protagonist Cal Kestis and lightsaber customization items. AlthoughCal’s lightsaber plays a significant rolein the Fallen Order story, players will be able to customize its look by giving it new hilts, metals, and colors.
Althoughthere is not a fast travel systembetween the meditation points,Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderdoes allow players to jump between planets by way of Cal’s ship. As long as the ship is accessible and not locked for a narrative reason, players can return to a planet like Zaffo and see what new pathways are now open.
