Fans of souls games have a lot going for them right now. Not only is theDemon Soul’s Remakecoming to PS5, taking fans back to the franchise that first made an impact in the genre, butElden Ringis somewhere, somehow over the horizon. Yet, It’s been afull year sinceElden Ringsnewsdropped, and fans are hungry for more. The game has basically become a meme at this point, as scrolling the subreddit proves fans aren’t giving up, but have slightly gone over the edge.
More news should be coming soon, but the key word is “should.” With COVID-19, relative silence from From Software, and the ambitions ofElden Ring, it’ll be interesting to see how, when, and where news crops up next. However, as excited as these fans are for a new From Software title, just as many (if not more) are still hung up on one key thing: a sequel toBloodborne.

Elden Ring
Elden Ringseems to have everything going for it. Not only is From Software making the title, a big name in the gaming industry with a growing amount of pedigree, butGame of Throneswriter George R.R. Martinhas work in on the game world and lore. It has huge ambitions of a more “open field” approach than past games, and a lot of rumors have painted an epic development for the next Souls-like game. And despite the lack of news, it says something that fans have rallied around this so strongly.
However,Elden Ringmay very well be a third establishment of the Souls formula, not a replacement for others.Demon’s Soulsand Dark Souls established the main formula, and many seeBloodborne’s changes as yet another. After all,Soulsborne was a termquickly picked up, differing slightly from the broader Souls-like term.Sekiro, in a way, can be seen as an off-shoot of all this, whileElden Ringremains to be seen. Whether or not “Soulsring” becomes a term orElden Ringsets its own precedent, it’s not likely to fall simple into the Souls game formula, nor is it likely to follow suit within a “Soulsborne” genre.
Bloodborne 2
Presumably,Bloodborne 2would be another PlayStation exclusivelike the original, which will likely matter more than it initially seems.Elden Ringis a multi-platform release, further separating it fromBloodborne. And aside from the obvious combat differences inDark SoulsandBloodborne, the aesthetics of theBloodborne world are one draw from the game separate from its pedigree. This is something thatElden Ringcan’t truly replicate, so as a base of comparison, they exist but there’s nothing to suggest Elden Ring is enough to wipe out hype forBloodborne 2.
That said,Elden Ringis the nextFrom Softwaretitle. Fans are likely to spend hours of their life on it, and for a short time period, fans may not be calling forBloodborne 2as much.Elden Ringwill likely take center stage in the months leading up to and after its actual release, but there’s no forgettingBloodborne. Calls for a sequel are going nowhere until From Software announces the title, however far in the future that is.
Elden Ringis in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
