It is no exaggeration to say Dragonriding was one of the most popular features from theDragonflightexpansion. The system was so well-received thatWorld of Warcraftis transforming it into Dynamic Flying, bringing it to the rest of the world in Patch 10.2.5 and combining it with the existing flying system inThe War Within.
Now, it seems likeWorld of Warcraftmight be working on a different type of transportation. On a recent build of the PTR for Patch 10.2.5, Seeds of Renewal,World of Warcraftcontent creator MrGM discovered an entrythat references a “Prototype Dynamic Ground Mount.” While little is known about it thus far, players are wondering ifWorld of Warcraftmay be toying with adding active abilities and traits to ground mounts similar to those in Dynamic Flying. The flavor text of the entry also references the Mechacycle Model W, a unique Gnomish ground mount that would be perfect for such abilities.

InGuild Wars 2, ground mounts all have unique abilities to help traverse different obstacles in the world, such as the horizontal leap of the Raptor, the vertical jump of the Springer, or the speedy Roller Beetle.World of Warcrafthas already borrowed some ideas fromGuild Wars 2’sSkyscale and Griffon mounts for use in Dynamic Flying, so many fans wonder if this potential Dynamic Ground Mount feature might take inspiration from these exciting forms of locomotion, or from the mount system inDiablo 4.
Fans are intrigued by the potential of a Dynamic Ground Mount. Non-flying mounts unfortunately become obsolete after players unlock flying, as they can only be used in some PvP maps, dungeons, and other areas where flying is limited–a problem that will only grow more pronounced with global Dynamic Flying. Adding something new andunique to ground mounts inWorld of Warcraft, such as races or special abilities, may open a world of possibilities–and let players use some of their rare ground mounts more often.
That said, it is important to take this discovery with a grain of salt. It is possible this test mount might not be what players think it is, or these so-called Dynamic Ground Mounts could never come toWorld of Warcraftat all. Even so, the possibility is intriguing, andWorld of Warcraftis working on some surprises for its next patchesand expansions, so players will have to see if this new type of mount is among them.
