World of Warcrafthas undergone a new talent system design for every class in the game with the new expansion:Dragonflight. Many players are happy to see these changes brought to talent trees as itbrings back memories of early expansionsof the game when talent selections had a lot more options branching out in various directions. However, there may still be underlying problems with these changes and the choices players have might not matter ultimately.

Nonetheless, we’re here to give a breakdown of the new talent trees for theRetribution Paladinso that you can get a nice head start with your build.

Talent System Changes

The biggest change players will see is thatthere are now 2 treesin the Talents Menu. On the Left is the PaladinClass Talent Tree, and on the Right is the RetributionSpecialization Talent Tree.At the level cap of 70 inWorld of Warcraft: Dragonflight, players are able to spend31points in the Paladin Talent tree and30points in the Retribution Talent tree. The choices for different builds might look overwhelming, but in the end, there will always end up being a meta build that everyone will be playing, with a few optional choices here and there.

A new feature that players can take advantage of is the drop-down menu in the bottom left-hand corner of the Talent Menu. Hereplayers can Select, Save, Share, and talent builds they’ve made. This added feature is really helpful to quickly swap between different talent builds to maximize your performance. You’ll notice there is actually a “Starter Build” option already in this menu to help get you going.

Firstly, let’s take a look at the Class Talent Tree on the left.

Retribution Paladin Class Talents

There are a number of required points that need to be spent for Retribution Paladins to have basic functionality. Making sure to pick upGreater Judgment,Divine Steed,Cavalier, andSeasoned Warhorse. This leaves open a few utility options of your choice for the remaining points needed to pass the first 8-point threshold after Row 4.

Next, you’ll need to pick up some more mandatory talents:Holy AegisandAvenging Wrathwhich also allow access toBlessing of Sacrifice, Recompense, andUnbreakable Spirit.Depending on your needs you’ll have to choose betweenTurn EvilandRebuketo accessSeal of ReprisalandIncandescence or Touch of Light(depending on single target or AoE needs). Rebuke probably being the more useful of the two. This leaves a few more points for some more optional utilities in order to access the next 20-point threshold after Row 7. Most players will likely opt forJudgment of LightandGolden Path.

Finally, there are a lot of choices here in the last tier that all help with damage output. Players will definitely want to go down the two outer paths to selectSeal of OrderandZealot’s Paragon. This leaves the remaining options betweenDivine Purpose,Holy Avenger, andSanctified Wrath. As it stands now, Divine Purpose is performing better than Holy Avenger.

Retribution Paladin Specialization Talents

The Retribution Talent Tree is in a bit of a disordered state at the moment, there are a good amount of flexible paths to take, but there are some questionable talent placements.

The first 8-point threshold is quickly met by taking a number of mandatory talents.

You’ll definitely want to pick upConsecrated Bladefor AoE; this also leads nicely down towardTempest of the Lightbringerto further boost AoE. Furthermore, there’s a choice between Single-Target and AoE damage at the 5th row betweenRighteous VerdictandSanctify.

Radiant Decree is seeing strong performance as well, so you’ll definitely want that.

Lastly, down at the bottom of the tree,Divine TollandFinal Reckoningare cornerstone talents to maximizing Ret damage.

At the bottom right of the Talent Menu there are three optional talents. These are Talents used in PvP and don’t have any effect on raid DPS.
