This new age will provide fresh episodes for nostalgicX-Menfans and a new look for one of the characters. In the merchandise release for the new show, figures for Rogue, Cyclops, and Wolverine are available. Many have their classic appearance reminiscent of the original, but Storm is sporting a slightly updated look. Far from the look that Halle Berry donned in theX-Menfilms, Storm’s new look is something closer to Alexandra Shipp’s interpretation. Posted on Reddit byu/MarvelLegends, fans can see the weather witch on the packaging sporting a fashionable mohawk.

Storm’s history with this hairstyle spans many decades, long beforeX-Menbecame a mixed bag of movies. After her character debuted with long flowing hair, her appearance changed in the ’70s. She has gone back and forth through the years, retaining her more traditional femininity in the ’80s. But in recent years, the mohawk has returned and signifies a change in Storm’s character. WhenX-Men ‘97premieres, this could mean that she may have more of a leadership role.

Storm has often been featured as a main character inX-Menlore, but her live-action interpretations have not always done her justice. While Berry appears in the firstX-Menfranchise, she was often sidelined in deference to the Jean/Scott/Logan drama.X-Men: Apocalypsedid slightly betterwith her, but that film won’t be winning any awards. Storm has received the short end of the stick for too long, and her new look may be a clue thatX-Men ‘97will rectify it.

When she cut her hair in the comics, it was a sign that she was changing. She was becoming tougher and even more guarded. Humans never accepted what they didn’t understand, and Storm becoming more of a warrior was a natural progression. With her central role in the animated series alongside Cyclops – andother X-Men characters fans want to see in the cartoon– her new hairstyle may hint at a more confident and headstrong Storm.

X-Men ‘97is set for release in late 2023 on Disney Plus.
