The newly announcedXenoblade Chronicles 3has the fanbase in a frenzy, as the announcement trailer was perfectly constructed to tease players of the previous games. It has been confirmed that this game will take place ina world that combines those of the first two games, meaning not only could characters from those games be coming back, but they could interact.

Regarding who exactly is coming back, it depends heavily on how long after the firstXenobladesgamesthis is set. Several characters have centuries-long lifespans for various reasons, whilst others are regular humans. The protagonists, Shulk and Rex, are both regular Homs/Humans, meaning they likely won’t be around anymore. However, some characters definitely will.
10Melia
Although shrouded in mystery, the announcement trailer seemingly confirmed a couple of returning characters. Although hidden behind a mask, the first is assumed to be Melia. As a half-High Entia, she has a longer lifespan than normal humans, smaller wings than most High Entia, andthe same voice actress provided this character’s voicein the trailer.
Melia is seemingly the leader of the Keves faction in the war around whichXenoblade 3’splot will center. Exactly why Melia would lead a war after spending time with Shulk, whose main drive was to end a war, is as yet unclear, but it’s possible she could be an antagonistic force in the game.
9Nia
The other character the trailer confirmed is Nia. Once again, she is behind a mask, but all the evidence points to it being her. The voice work is the same, and her attire is very similar to her Blade Form, including her longer Gormotti ears and distorted Flesh Eater Core Crystal.
Nia is the leader of the Agnus faction, on the other side of the game’s war. Her motivations are as yet unclear, but it implies some unease between the inhabitants of Bionis and Alrest when the worlds combined, almostpitting the two games against each other, in a way. Interestingly, one of the game’s protagonists, Mio, shares many of the same features as Nia, including the Core Crystal, perhaps implying a familial connection.
8Vandham
One of the most shocking aspects of the trailer was a character who looked and sounded virtually identical to Vandham. This is because Vandham dies quite early on inXenoblade 2’sstory and stays dead until the very end.
There are a couple of differences. The character shown in the trailer was not Urayan and wore an eyepatch, but everything else was spot on. Whether this is some kind of descendant or relative is yet unclear, but it’s not impossible Vandham was somehow revived. Although, the idea of revival would make almost any character possible to return.
7Brighid
One thing that hasn’t been explained yet is what happened to Blades when the worlds merged. Only existing in Alrest, there was no mention to them in the trailer, although one of the game’s party members, Sena, hasall the markings of a Blade, including a Core Crystal.

One of the main features of Blades is that they can live theoretically infinitely, and even once they die, they can be reawoken to live again. Brighid is special in that she is passed down as part of a royal line, meaning she is more likely than most Blades to still be around inXenoblade 3, even if the Empire of Mor Ardain has fallen.
6Tora
ArguablyXenoblade Chronicles’most iconic special, Nopon are a bunch of adorable furballs with all kinds of quirky personas. Tora was one of the party members inXenoblade 2and was as reliable as he was perverted, making his own Blade when he couldn’t bond with one normally.
Nopon are another species that can live much longer than humans, with some Nopon recorded to live upwards of 200 years. As Tora was quite young inXenoblade 2, he may still be around come the new game, whilst the first game’s Nopon party member, Riki, may not be as he was much older.
5Poppi
Created by Tora as an artificial Blade and traveling companion, Poppi is one ofXenoblade 2’smore adorable characters. Poppi becomes a loyal companion to Rex on his travels and gains severaldifferent forms and skillsthroughout the story.
As a machine, she could quite easily live for thousands of years as long as someone is there to look after her. Naturally, if Tora is still alive, he will fulfill this role, but it’s possible she has been passed on since then or chose to serve under Nia as part of the war.
4Vanea
A race that players get to meet disappointingly few of during the firstXenobladegame, the Machina are a fascinating people. Residents of Mechonis, their true nature is unclear, but they seem to be a Cyborg species, with human-like and machine-like anatomies.

They are noted to be able to live for thousands of years, making Vanea a viable candidate for a returning character. Sister to antagonist Egil, Vanea helps the party on their way to the Mechonis Core and can be seen in the game’s final cutscene, living in harmony with the other Homs.
3Zeke
Zeke is a unique case, as he is the only known Blade Eater to survive the events ofXenoblade 2. Where Flesh Eaters are Blades who consume a human heart, a Blade eater is the opposite, taking into themselves part of a Core Crystal to become more Blade-like.
Much like Flesh Eaters, it is confirmed that Blade Eaters gain the near-infinite lifespan of Blades, although they do not return to a Core Crystal if they die. This means as long as Zeke stays out of trouble, he can live forever with Pandoria. However, Zeke isn’t known for living a quiet life, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he sadly perished beforeXenoblade 3.
2Alvis
To say Alvis is a complex character would be one hell of an understatement. To put it in the simplest way possible, Alvis is the Monado. What exactly that meant was unclear at first, butXenoblade 2explained that Alvis was one of the Aegises, known as Ontos alongside Logos (Malos) and Pneuma (Pyra/Mythra) who disappeared into the alternate dimension ofXenoblade 1.
While it’s technically never been outright confirmed that this is the case, Klaus' explanation at the end ofXenoblade 2, along with Alvis' necklace inDefinitive Editionbaring the Aegis symbol are both strong enough evidence to come to this conclusion. What role he could possibly play in this new world is unclear, and he will likely just be a myth, but he could very well still be around.
1Pyra & Mythra
Despite making the ultimate sacrifice at the end ofXenoblade 2’slong journey, the pair were able to return to life from the Aegis Core Crystal. Be it through their bond with Rex, or divine intervention from Klaus, they are alive and well by the time the game fades out.
The nature of their return will be key to whether or not they show up inXenoblade 3.They came out of the Core Crystal, implying they’re still Blades, but they also became separate entities, as opposed to two beings in a single body. This may imply that their nature changed somewhat, perhaps to become more human so that they could live a full life with Rex. Either way, they are sure to be legendary figures in the world ofXenoblade 2, and if not appear in full, at least have cameos hidden somewhere.
